Now that the weekend is over, it’s time for some new content! Today’s post is on my most recent find and obsession! Last week, I did an Instagram story right when I received my Slip Silk Pillowcase. At the time, I had only slept on it once, so I did a quick video giving my first impression! After being able to sleep on it for a few nights, I’m equally as impressed as I was then.
My dermatologist kept getting on me for sleeping on my side because it causes wrinkles, especially in the nasolabial fold (the area that runs from each side of your nose to the corners of your mouth, also known as “smile lines”). I tried to sleep on my back, but wasn’t as comfortable as I was when sleeping on my side. I started researching silk pillowcases because they seemed to be the new trend, and that’s when I found the Slip Silk Pillowcase.
This pillowcase can be bought at Nordstrom, Sephora, Free People, Urban Outfitters, DermaStore, and Bloomingdales. I bought mine at Nordstrom after I had Nordstrom notes to use! Pairing it with our Iso-Cool Memory Foam Pillows was an excellent choice, too! This pillow is memory foam AND it keeps your head cool all night!
This pillowcase is recommended by dermatologists, hair stylists, plastic surgeons, and beauty experts (as it states online and on the box). This pillowcase has been featured on Vogue, Bazaar, Elle, Cosmo, People, Lucky, Fox News, Glamour, Today, Martha Stewart, OK, US, and InStyle. Here are some reviews from experts.
According to the website, this pillowcase was scientifically tested and is proven to be anti-aging, anti-sleep crease, and anti-bed head. Now let’s get down to the details. This pillowcase:
Is gentle on your hair: Cotton draws moisture from your hair, drying it out and further contributing to bed-head. Unfortunately ‘bed-head’ is not only an inconvenience, but a symptom of something more serious. The same rough treatment that causes bed-head can also damage your hair follicles, leading to thinner, less healthy hair.
Hydrates your skin: Cotton is very absorbent. It can hold 24-27 times its own weight in water. This mean it actually draws moisture away from you skin, drying it out and stealing your expensive face crème in the process!
When you sleep on silk, your delicate facial skin is more hydrated in the morning.
Don’t forget to pack your slip when traveling. Just one night back on cotton and you’ll really notice the difference in the morning.
Silk breathes: It’s a natural temperature-regulator, so it’s cooler in summer and doesn’t sweat like synthetic satin and other man-made imitations. Synthetic satin (e.g. polyester) may feel nice and soft in your hand, but after an 8 hour sleep, your hair and facial skin can really feel the difference.
Silk is natural: Slip is the perfect choice for people with allergies. It’s hypoallergenic… at least it is when strict production standards are enforced, including the use of non-toxic dyes.
Alright, so let’s get into my review on it.
I toss and turn a lot in my sleep. This leads to my hair getting very rat’s-nest-like when I wake up. I haven’t had this the last few nights after sleeping on this pillowcase. My hair still feels sleek and looks shiny when I wake up, which I’ve never had. Like I said in my Instagram story, whenever I turn my head to lay on the other side, my hair slides across the pillowcase. With a cotton pillowcase, it would pull my hair whenever I would toss and turn. This might not make sense unless you have actually slept on it.
When I asked Jacob what he thought, he said he really liked it and that it felt great. I only unboxed one because I needed to take pictures of the other box, so Jacob slept on it when I was working that night. The next night, we had to decide who got to sleep on it! Jacob was nice enough to let me (Lol, thanks). But really, I do love it.
I don’t have any cons, but Jacob had one. Sometimes, he likes to sleep on his stomach and put his arm around the pillow. He said that the silk makes it hard to grip because it’s slippery. I don’t sleep that way, so I don’t have that problem.
There you have it! A short, but sweet review on the Slip Silk Pillowcase. This post is in no way sponsored or paid for by Slip — they’re purely thoughts by me because I love it so much! They also have an eye mask for sleeping, which I haven’t tried! I really got into beauty and hair care in the few months leading up to our wedding and have been into it ever since! When I learned about this from a beauty expert, I knew I needed to try it! They have ten different colors, and we have the silver in the queen size (the normal pillowcase size)!
